What to Bring to a NERO Event

Whether you're PCing or NPCing, you'll probably need:

  • Warm bedding - sleeping bag, blankets, pillow, etc - but be sure you know whether you'll be camping in heated facilities or not, and what to expect of the region's weather

  • Water, if none is available on site (all the NERO Mass sites have running water unless otherwise noted)

  • Extra Socks

  • Towel, Toothbrush, and other assorted bathroom supplies

  • Hiking Boots or Other Sturdy Walking Stuff

  • Some Cash for Post-Game Food Runs - lots of folks go out to eat together after events

  • Gelled Pocket Flashlight

NPCs Should Bring:

  • Basic Black Costumes (no logos, no modern looking stuff)

  • Belt pouch or belt with hanging bag/pouch

  • A Watch

PCs Should Bring:

  • All character garb, props, tags, and in-game items

  • If you do combat, you'll want your weapon reps

  • and maybe a Weapon Repair Kit, including:
Open-cell Foam, Closed-cell Foam, Duct Tape, Sharp Pointy Tool, Scissors

  • If you play a makeup race, or if there is no running water on site, you'll want Baby Wipes for cleanup

  • Makeup

    • Mehron

    • Jack Stein

If you're a spell caster or alchemist, you'll need Packet-Making Materials:
Fabric scraps, rubber bands, birdseed (WITHOUT sunflower seeds!)

Some Stuff You May Want on Hand but Don't Need

  • Non-perishable foods (i.e., foods that will outlast a nuclear holocaust)

    • Pudding Cups

    • Twinkies, Ding-Dongs, Ring-Dings, and other obscene sounding not-quite-baked products

    • PopTarts

    • Candy. Any kind.

  • Gatorade

  • Tang powder

  • Water in a jug

  • High-caffeine beverage products (NPC favorites appear to be Jolt and Mountain Dew, with coffee a universal second) - remember, though, caffeine dehydrates, so drink plenty of other liquids, too!

Whatever you do, check out the chapter and campground policies before you get there - find out if grilling is allowed, whether food will be served, if there's running water, and so on.

Also - Don't forget, if you need some brownie points or even some Goblin Stamps, most chapters are desperate for NPC packets and weapons - sometimes even props and costumes...call ahead to see what's needed, but it's pretty likely you'll be the hit of NPC camp if you come strolling in with some two-handed weapon reps and a bag o' orange spell packets!

What NOT to Bring to a NERO Event

  • Alcohol

  • Illegal drugs

  • A bad attitude!
