Retrieving & Renewing Old Player Characters

A number of past players have been expressing interest in returning to NERO Massachusetts. We welcome returning players: you can renew online, by phone (203-426-7729), or at an event. After renewing your membership and signing up for an event, you want to make sure your character(s) is/are correct in the database.

The hitch is that at the start of the 2000 season, NERO Massachusetts had to migrate to a new database program due to the problems with the old one. At the time, a backup copy of the database was available which was over a year out of date. This backup copy has since started to develop recovery problems, and has been taken out of use.

(NOTE FROM RACHEL: If it has been more than 2 years since you played anywhere, we have the cards on a VERY old backup available to help recreate the card.)

The current process has been to work with the returning player to reconstruct the old character(s) from old character cards and/or the players' best, honest recollection.

If you are coming back to play, and you have not played a character since before the 2000 season, please contact Ravenholt update by one of the methods below to get the character(s) re-entered into the new database.

For character database issues for the Ravenholt (and Crossroads) campaigns, contact Rick Pierce at NERO Massachusetts Character Database Updates

Logistics for Old & Returning Player Characters

If you have not played your character in over a year and your tags have expired, Logistics will provide any returning player character the equivalent of starting player stuff. This means that your character can walk into game with spellbooks, weapons and/or armor tags that are not expired. Just come to Logistics at the beginning of the event and let me know that it has been over a year since you played and I will give you the basic tags needed to get you into game. Since gold and silver do not have expiration dates, this will be your own to bring in and/or find in-game.

The Transfer of PC Powers into Ravenholt

In order for a player to have a power(s) transferred into the Ravenholt Chapter, we request that...

1. The player must have the Plot Member(s) of the Committee that granted them the power(s) contact the NERO Massachusetts Ravenholt Campaign Plot Committee (ravenholt@neromass.com), to verify in writing the exact powers granted to the PC, as well as to provide a brief write-up on the plotline proceeding the powers. If the player prefers, they may simply send us the contact information of the Committee/Member in question, and we will contact them directly for this information.

2. We request that this information be submitted to the NERO Massachusetts Ravenholt Campaign Plot Committee NO LESS than TWO (2) WEEKS prior to the event the player would like to utilize the power(s) on.

3. We as a Committee commit to discussing fully the exact powers and plotline provided, and will decide within that time limit (two weeks) whether or not we feel that the plotline and powers inherent in it are appropriate for the power level, magic level, and local cosmology of the Ravenholt Campaign. We reserve the right to make suggestions for modifications of power(s) in order to better align the power(s) with the Ravenholt Campaign. These suggestions need not be accepted by the player, but may cause the submission to be declined.

We would like to make clear: the following policy is bi-directional, in that we as the NERO Massachusetts Ravenholt Campaign Plot Committee are willing to follow all of these steps in aiding Ravenholt players to transfer their Ravenholt-earned power(s) into other chapters. We request only that the contact information of the "transferee chapter" be provided to us prior to the two-week limit.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but ask that the players understand that this is simply the only way we can ensure that what every player sees and does (or can do) is consistent with the world around them, and that all player requests are treated equally - if the power(s) requested are cosmologically sound, make sense with the power/magic level of the Ravenholt campaign, and come from a plotline which may be carried on in this chapter, there is an excellent chance that there will be no problems.
