Pantherghasts Plague Town
|
As the September gathering began, the citizens of Ravenholt felt the cold dread and fear of the Pantherghasts' approach. Dwarves, Mystic Wood Elves, Elves, Sarr, and Humans were all gripped with the feeling of being hunted and watched, and before the night had ended, the creatures were seen on the field. The first to be felled was the Mystic Wood Elf Pantherghast, by Tinker of Equinox. He was, in fact, the only member of his race in the town's recent history with the ability to actually damage the Pantherghast through its superior defenses. With the support of casters of his race and fighters blocking for him and goading it to him, he latched on and doggedly chased it until its defeat. When the Pantherghast was taken down and killed, a bottle apparently containing its spirit was found on its body. Later that eve, Baron Gabriel led a group through the harsh and trackless wilderness to find the Elven Pantherghast. They were apparently called out of bed for help after it slew Guildmistress Ember Jongleur, prominent Mystic Wood Elf Kestrel, Viscount Larrister Greentree, and Lieutenant Archer of the Grey Raven Company. Calls for help summoned the group of Elves and others to the Guild to hunt the terrifying creature. Later a group consisting of Dame Jatrina, Sir Antro Accipiter, and others joined the fight. It was slain, and left behind a bottle similar to the one the Mystic Wood Elf hunter had earlier that eve. According to unclear reports, Ember Jongleur resurrected with no trouble. Kestrel had some difficulty resurrecting, and Lieutenant Archer and Viscount Greentree suffered their final deaths. Lieutenant Archer was restored to life by a boon, channeled through Squire Valamar of Cumberland, from the golem Ardus. The attempt was made to restore the Viscount as well, however it proved to be impossible. As the gathering wore on, the other Pantherghasts were spotted and pursued, although they eluded capture for many hours. The Elven and Mystic hunters were not spotted, assumedly because of their bottle. Sunday afternoon, a Destroy Greater Earth Magic formal was performed on the Elven bottle, cast by Dougan Steelforge. It appeared to take its normal affect. Baron Gabriel Wolvestride, Sir Oberon Anduin, Squire Valamar, and a few others relentlessly attacked the Sarr hunter without the benefit of having a Sarr to aid in the fight. As dawn broke, they proved victorious, gaining the aid of an early-rising Sarr. Sunday evening, the Elven Pantherghast reappeared to the dismay of the Elves nearby. It proved more elusive that time, and while it was about, the Human hunter also took the field. Soon after, the Dwarven Pantherghast appeared. All of the Dwarves in the town rallied together and with the support of their teams and other townsfolk, they defeated the Pantherghast and took its bottle. The Human Pantherghast was also hunted and slain that night, and according to reports, its bottle was not retrieved. Somehow it was ascertained that the only method to destroy these bottles was to perform a Destroy Greater Earth formal within the confines of what has come to be called the Black Circle. On Monday of the gathering, the forces of the town converged on it and held a two fronted battle to allow Dougan Steelforge time to perform the formal magic. Archers were instrumental in the battle, while the folk outside attempted to take out a large amount of the Undead before they could reach those fighting inside. In the end, the forces of Ravenholt triumphed, and the formal was defended long enough for completion. It is believed that the bottles of the Elven, Dwarven and Mystic Wood Elf Pantherghasts were destroyed, although because of the misconception of which circle these destroys had to be cast at, the Elven Pantherghast is still at large.

The Empty Mug? What's with this team? They march in military fashion almost everywhere they go! Their leader, LeeOrick, can be heard bellowing orders no matter where he is in town. Perhaps with a bit more polish and practice, they will be a dangerously effective team. Okay, so if the Empty Mug marches when they don't need to, what's up with the Grey Ravens? They never march, and their leader, Archer, gets himself killed at the most inopportune times. Luckily some nobles had an in with a power-being to bring him back! Maybe he and his company of very experienced (and famous) adventurers should take some organizational lessons from the Empty Mug! Where have all the gypsies gone? Their late-night music and clashing clothing are almost missed in Ravenholt. We can console ourselves with having Alora and Magenta around, who seem to be plenty of Gypsy for anyone goes within twenty feet of them. Speaking of missing people, has anyone noticed that there are tons of women missing in Ravenholt? Where are the days of the strong female leadership? Luckily we still have Dame Jatrina, Magenta, Alora, Ardanna, Keyla, Ember, and Willow around, but sheesh! I have been especially missing the lightning-quick sword of Altair. A lot of strength and dignity seems to have died with her.

Rumor has it that some trolls (or goblins or kobolds or lizardmen _ I can never tell them apart) made some ducal banners their very own. They were spotted arguing amongst themselves over who would represent them as "Duke" while waving the colorful banners. Being compromising sort of creatures (that day), they each took turns being "Duke" until some patriotic townsfolk returned the banners to their rightful place. What's up with Cumberland these days? They seem to be everywhere _ and have some money to burn, if you were fortunate enough to watch their Baron-Regent in action at the auction. And how on Tyrra do you tell Sir Oberon apart from his Squire? The perfect hair, the spotless tabards, the disarming smiles _ but talk around town is that Oberon has some vampiric connections. Why else would an elf have fangs? By the sad-looking faces, I'd say Prince Kevyn has had some harsh words for our nobles. I hear that he charged each court with a quest. I never did find out if Capulus found their wild grapes, though. Maybe networking in town would do them some good. To take a barony, or not to take a barony? That seems to be the question for the up and coming (again) Brotherhood of the Dragon. It must be tough to have such decisions to make. There weren't enough titles to go around when they served Dragonshire _ maybe this time around each will get a turn. I hear Eastwyck has stopped slaughtering innocent creatures and fleecing the town with overpriced items. That's certainly good to hear, but the Curse of the Disappearing Baron seems to have struck this court. Oh Baron-Regent Dabhar? Anyone home? We'll be glad when he comes back and injects a little more discipline.
Tales From The Front | |||||
|
At the long End-of-Summer gathering, His Highness Prince Kevin Blackfox came for a visit. His primary reason to visit was to congratulate His Grace, Duke Roderick Ravenhurst, on the successful completion of the quest the Prince had given His Grace. By retaking the city of Ravenholt, Duke Ravenhurst had made the efforts that made him worthy to accept the bond of the land. In a solemn ceremony attended by most of the town, Prince Blackfox shared his land-bond with Duke Ravenhurst, thus strengthening the land and making a great step toward the full cleansing of the Duchy. The Prince also spent some time re-acquainting himself with the people of Ravenholt. He spoke with some of the commoners during his open court, and met at length with each of the noble courts in a series of closed-door sessions. Prince Kevin left Sunday to continue his tour of his lands after expressing his pleasure at the strides taken against the foes of Ravenholt, and offering his advice and suggestions on how to continue improvements.
